RO Plant Retrofitting & Membrane Replacement – SAM Tech Saudi Arabia

SAM Tech specializes in providing professional RO membrane replacement services. Maintaining the highest standards of quality and performance. With our extensive experience and commitment to excellence, we help our clients achieve optimal operation and longevity of their RO systems.

What it is

A specialist retrofit and performance restoration service designed to upgrade ageing or underperforming Reverse Osmosis water treatment plants to current operational, efficiency, and regulatory standards — without the capital expenditure of full plant replacement.

What we do

  • Conduct comprehensive technical audits and performance assessments of existing RO plant infrastructure
  • Engineer retrofit solutions addressing membrane degradation, hydraulic inefficiency, instrumentation obsolescence, and system losses
  • Replace and upgrade critical components including membranes, high-pressure pumps, pressure vessels, energy recovery devices, and SCADA control systems
  • Optimise pre-treatment and post-treatment processes to improve overall water quality and recovery rates
  • Recommission upgraded systems with full performance verification, testing, and operator handover

Who it's for

Desalination authorities, industrial water treatment operators, power and water utilities, and petrochemical facilities operating existing RO infrastructure that no longer meets required output quality, efficiency, or reliability standards.

Why it matters

Ageing RO plants suffer progressive efficiency losses, increasing energy consumption, and declining water quality — all of which directly impact operational costs and regulatory compliance. A professionally executed retrofit restores plant performance, extends operational life by many years, and delivers a measurable return on investment at a fraction of full replacement cost.

SWRO membrane replacement and RO plant upgrades

Over time RO membranes foul and lose salt rejection, high-pressure pumps wear and instruments become obsolete. The result is lower permeate flow, poorer water quality and higher energy use. We start with a technical audit of the existing plant to find where performance is being lost.

Based on the audit we replace membranes, high-pressure pumps, pressure vessels and energy recovery devices, upgrade instrumentation and SCADA controls, and optimise pretreatment and post-treatment. The upgraded plant is recommissioned, performance-tested and handed back to your operators.

Our teams have carried out seawater RO (SWRO) membrane replacement work in the GCC and serve desalination authorities, utilities and industrial water users across Saudi Arabia.

What the service covers

  • RO and SWRO membrane replacement
  • Technical audit and performance assessment of existing plants
  • High-pressure pump, pressure vessel and energy recovery device replacement
  • Instrumentation and SCADA upgrades
  • Recommissioning and performance verification

Where we work in Saudi Arabia

From our base in Rabigh we mobilise teams and equipment to plants and project sites across Saudi Arabia, including Jeddah, Yanbu, Jubail, Dammam, and across the GCC through the Power Tech Group.

Frequently asked questions

When should RO membranes be replaced?

When cleaning no longer restores permeate flow or salt rejection, or when pressure drop and energy use keep rising. A plant audit shows whether the membranes or other parts of the plant are the cause.

Is retrofitting cheaper than building a new RO plant?

Usually, yes. A retrofit keeps the existing civil works and structure and replaces only the parts that limit performance.

Do you replace membranes in seawater (SWRO) plants?

Yes. We replace membranes in seawater and other reverse osmosis plants, including removal, installation and recommissioning.
